About 130 Taliban fighters are being trained to work as guards at the Pul-e-Charkhi prison as the facility in the Afghan capital Kabul is readied to go back into service. Afghanistan’s largest prison in the country reportedly once held as many as 1,500 inmates before they were freed by the Taliban as the militant group moved in to seize the city and control of the country in August. Opening prisons was a strategy used by Taliban fighters across the country, since freed Islamist inmates often would join their ranks.
