Hong Kong customs have arrested two suspected mainland Chinese smugglers while seizing a shipment of HK$10 million (US$1.28 million) worth of contraband seafood, including 890kg (1,960lbs) of live lobsters and 930kg (2,050lbs) of dried sea cucumbers. The speedboat was intercepted on November 15, 2021, after a high-speed sea pursuit near Lamma Island that lasted for about 10 minutes. It is the first seizure of lobsters since late October, when the city’s new customs chief, Louise Ho Pui-shan, described the smuggling of products to the mainland as a vital “national security priority”.
