Couple gets parking ticket after stopping to help overdose victim

CA, 02 Nov 2021
As the old saying goes, "no good deed goes unpunished," and a B.C. couple experienced that idiom firsthand this past Friday after intervening to bring a man back from an overdose - and ending up with a parking ticket.

Kalen Bourdon and his girlfriend had made a stop at the Skytrain transit station to pick up some friends when they noticed a man lying on the ground in distress. Bourdon leaped into action, administering naloxone -- a medication that can block the effects of opioids and reverse the effects of an overdose -- and with help from someone passing by, performed CPR until an ambulance arrived.

The whole episode lasted about 15 minutes, with their vehicle parked 30 feet away but when they returned, they found a ticket amounting to $80. But as Paul Johnson reports, while the parking ticket was dismissed, Bourdon would take the ticket again if it meant saving a life.
