World on track to see temperature rise of 2.7C, says UN
Telegraph, 27 Oct 2021
The UN’s Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has responded to the recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, saying that the world is on track to see a temperature rise of 2.7C.
The report is one of several recent studies to examine the gap between what countries have pledged to do to cut emissions of planet-heating gases and what scientists say is required to meet the 2015 Paris climate accord goals.
Mr Guterres said the hike to 2.7C is based off current nationally-determined contributions and other commitments. The report concluded that recent announcements by dozens of countries to aim for "net-zero" emissions by 2050 could, if fully implemented, limit a global temperature rise to 2.2C.
