Tougher Covid rules in England as Boris Johnson faces resignation calls over Xmas party
BBC, 09 Dec 2021
The UK government has announced tougher Covid restrictions in England, in response to the rapid spread of the new Omicron Covid variant.
It came as the prime minister Boris Johnson was faced calls to resign over claims that staff at Downing Street held a party last Christmas in breach of lockdown rules.
One of the prime minister’s senior officials, Allegra Stratton, has resigned after joking about breaching the rules in a video leaked to the media.
