Will the so-called "Summit for Democracy" promote democracy or divide the world? According to the U.S. State Department, the goal is for the invited leaders to "set an agenda for democratic renewal and to face threats through collective action." The invitation list has been released, and much attention has been focused on who's invited and who's not. However, what qualifies America to make the call for "democratic renewal"? How can any one country judge who is democratic and who's not? How democratic is the summit when half of the world is not invited?
