As the Belt and Road Initiative celebrates its first decade, the greening of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has become a crucial endeavor to promote sustainable development, protect biodiversity and reduce deforestation. The Hub with Wang Guan talks to Erik Solheim, convener of the BRI International Green Development Coalition (BRIGC) and former under-secretary-general of the UN. Solheim recently attended a roundtable on BRI Green Development and the General Assembly of BRIGC in Beijing and says the BRI is neither a "debt trap" nor "neocolonialism." He calls for cooperation between China and the U.S. to bring about a virtuous cycle, saying that "the BRI is not a competition between China and the West." As the BRI tries to balance the environment and development, he reckons that Asia will become the world's green growth engine.
