Areas of Ukraine were again plunged into freezing darkness after a fresh wave of deadly missile attacks by Russian forces on December 5, 2022. A region surrounding the Ukrainian capital Kyiv was among the places facing extended emergency blackouts after the strikes targeting public utilities. At least four people were killed in the latest of Russia’s eighth round of such attacks over several weeks. Ukraine claimed its defence systems shot down at least 60 of the more than 70 missiles Russia fired in the recent attack. Moscow has meanwhile accused Kyiv of a drone attack that targeted a military facility deep inside Russia.
