Manitoba premier speaks on landfill search calls after talks with Indigenous leaders, Trudeau | LIVE
CA, 17 Dec 2022
Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson is expected to speak on Friday after discussions with Indigenous leaders and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau amid ongoing calls for searches of a landfill in Winnipeg where the remains of two women killed by an alleged serial killer are believed to be.
Earlier this week, several Indigenous organizations criticized Winnipeg police for not searching Prairie Green landfill and wrote a letter to Ottawa to ask for the federal government to help in the search.
The Feds have since said it will fund a feasibility study on a potential search of the landfill, with Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Marc Miller saying the study would be part of an effort to help the victims' families find closure.
