Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to announce Thursday that applications for the children's dental benefit have opened and parents of those under 12 years can apply with the Canada Revenue Agency to receive it.

The benefit is available for children in families that earn less than $90,000 a year and ranges from $260 to $650 per child depending on net income.

The benefit was part of the policies pushed by the federal NDP for the party to support the minority Liberal government on major legislation and confidence votes. Children under 12 are only the first stage of the dental plan announced by the Liberals, with more age groups to be rolled out with the federal government's commitment to a full dental care program for households with income under $90,000 by 2025.
