Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to speak in Vancouver on Friday to highlight the federal government's plan on child care following a meeting with the province's new premier, David Eby, who will also attend.

B.C. Minister of State for Child Care Katrina Chen and federal Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Karina Gould will be present as well. Trudeau is expected to speak with reporters following his remarks.

Trudeau's remarks come the same day Statistics Canada reported a slight drop in the country's unemployment rate, down to 5.1 per cent last month, though only a modest 10,000 jobs were added.
