Canadian Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos and other health officials are expected to provide an update on Wednesday on the current COVID-19 situation, post-COVID condition, and other public health concerns amid a surge of respiratory illness across the country.

There have been at least 10 pediatric deaths across the country. While there are signs that the flu season may be peaking in parts of the country, the virus is still very much a threat, with hospitals bracing for some difficult weeks ahead.

Health Canada recently authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech bivalent COVID-19 vaccine for children between five and 11 years of age.

Health Canada previously authorized this bivalent shot in early October for individuals aged 12 and older.
