The House of Commons committee that handles transportation issues has agreed to launch a special study into the treatment of air and rail passengers this past holiday season after hundreds of travellers were stranded, hearing testimony from officials from major airlines and Via Rail, as well as Transport Minister Omar Alghabra.

Liberal committee chair Peter Schiefke made the request and led the initial meeting, calling the treatment of Canadian travellers over the holidays “unacceptable.” He said he wants Sunwing and Via Rail before the committee to answer questions about their handling of the winter storm travel disruptions last month.
