Indian authorities are making plans to demolish some buildings in a Himalayan town near its border with China after several days of evacuations of families from homes that started sinking. Local officials said on January 10, 2023, that hundreds of homes developed cracks and appear to be shifting in Joshimath, a town in the northern state of Uttarakhand that is popular with tourists and religious pilgrims.
