15 people including three children and the leadership of the Ukrainian interior ministry have died in a helicopter crash in eastern Kyiv, authorities said.

The helicopter, which was flying towards frontline regions, came down by a kindergarten in Brovary, a suburb of the capital, early on Wednesday morning.

Those killed included Denis Monastyrsky, the interior minister, and his deputy, police said.

Earlier, officials had given an initial death toll of 18.

Officials said nine people on board the aircraft and six on the ground, including three children, were killed when the French-made Super Puma helicopter crashed in a residential area in the suburb of Brovary on the capital's eastern outskirts.
