Some anime enthusiasts in Japan have for decades been pasting their favourite cartoon characters onto their vehicles to create itasha or “cringeworthy cars" in Japanese. The name reflects the misfit image the cars had when they hit the roads, but perceptions are changing as anime becomes more mainstream.
