A fire in a hospital in Beijing killed at least 21 people on April 18, 2023, according to Chinese state-run media. Images posted on social media showed people sitting on external air conditioning units or clinging to ropes after the blaze broke out at around 12.57pm local time. The flames were put out about half an hour later, but it reportedly took about two hours to evacuate 71 people, including many patients who had to be transferred to another hospital.
