Two New York residents were arrested on April 17, 2023, by the US Department of Justice on suspicion of operating a Chinese “secret police station” in Manhattan’s Chinatown. Authorities say the “overseas Chinese police station” had been operating on behalf of Beijing’s Ministry of Public Security. More than 40 other people still at large have also been charged with targeting and intimidating Chinese dissidents in the US.
