Authorities are expected to provide an update as the RCMP confirmed they are investigating a heist at Pearson International Airport, which may have netted thieves more than $100 million worth of gold.

According to the RCMP, investigators with Peel Regional Police and RCMP are looking into the theft, declining to provide details because the investigation is at an early stage.

According to the Toronto Sun, 3,600 pounds of gold was being shipped through Canada’s largest airport went it went missing. Police are looking at local organized crime gangs as possible suspects, the Sun reported, attributing the information to unnamed sources.

Gold mined in Canada can travel through Pearson on its way to customers around the world.
