The archbishop of Canterbury condemned the illegal migration bill tabled by the UK government warning it was isolationist and unacceptable during a speech in the House of Lords.

Justin Welby said the bill would be a 'quick fix' that did not attempt to stop climate change, or international conflict at the base of migration. The Archbishop also reminded the house the UNHCR warning that the law, if passed without amendment, could lead to the collapse of the international system for protecting refugees
