Former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan was indicted by a court on May 10, 2023, on charges that he unlawfully sold state gifts during his premiership. This followed his arrest at Islamabad High Court on May 9, prompting clashes between Khan supporters and police that killed at least one protester. Dozens of paramilitary troops in riot-control gear surrounded Khan, Pakistan's most popular leader according to opinion polls, and bundled him into a black van.
