US Representative George Santos has pleaded not guilty to 13 charges over fraud, money laundering and theft of public funds. The first-term Republican congressman vowed to fight the charges, calling his prosecution a “witch hunt” during remarks to reporters outside court in Long Island, New York on May 10, 2023. Despite calls from some of his fellow House Republicans for him to resign, Santos said he will remain in office and will run for re-election in 2024.
