Turkey presidential poll set for May 28 runoff as Erdogan wins 49.51% of vote, Kilicdaroglu 44.88%
FRANCE24, 16 May 2023
It seems unlikely that Turkish opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu will win in the May 28 runoff, reports FRANCE 24's Jasper Mortimer, unless Recep Tayyip Erdogan commits a huge blunder. One of the more interesting aspects of this election was that the opinion polls were significantly wrong, having predicted the opposite result: Kilicdaroglu (49%), Erdogan (44%). This was no doubt because the opinion polls consisted of people mostly from the cities. However, most of the electorate lives in the countryside and favours Erdogan.
