Oz and Fetterman clash on abortion rights in Pennsylvania Senate debate
Guardian, 26 Oct 2022
Abortion rights took centre stage during the debate for Pennsylvania’s US Senate seat on Tuesday night, as popular doctor Mehmet Oz went head to head with Democrat hopeful John Fetterman.

Oz said there should be no federal involvement on abortion and that the decision should be left to 'women, doctors, local political leaders'. Fetterman however said if elected he would 'fight to re-establish Roe v Wade'.
Fetterman added: 'I've always believed the choice should be with women and their doctors; [Oz] believes the choice should be with him or Republican legislatures across this nation.'
Fetterman also said he was happy to serve if his doctor believed he was fit to do so. He said 'to me, transparency is all about showing up. I'm here today to have a debate.' One of Mehmet Oz's campaign aides targeted Fetterman's early stroke, saying he would have been fit if he had 'ever eaten a vegetable in his life'.
