RCMP's Brenda Lucki, Minister Bill Blair appear before public safety committee on NS shooting | LIVE

CA, 01 Nov 2022
RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki and Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair are expected to testify before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security on Monday amid allegations of potential political interference in the Nova Scotia mass shooting investigation.

The committee voted last week to recall them both after audio recordings of a meeting between Lucki and several of her subordinates was released and has been at the centre of a firestorm ever since members of Nova Scotia RCMP accused the commissioner of pressuring them to release details about the gunman's weapons. They claimed Lucki had told them during the April 28 meeting she "promised" Blair and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau this information would be shared publicly and that the promise was connected to gun control legislation the Liberals wanted to put forward.

At several points in the call, Lucki said she was "disappointed" details about the firearms used by the gunman weren't publicly released despite her asking them to be. At no point during the audio recordings, however, did Lucki say she was ordered or pressured to release details about the gunman's weapons by anyone in the government - an assertion made by political opponents who have accused the Liberals with interfering.
