Guardian, 20 Oct 2022
Bob Chan was staging a protest in Manchester before he was beaten up by men who appeared to emerge from China's consulate. Chan, originally from Hong Kong, says he is 'shocked' the attack occurred in the UK 'because it is not China'.

'I left (Hong Kong) because of the national security law, there is a drastic change in terms of the freedoms that we got to enjoy in Hong Kong and how life has been, so that’s the reason I decided to leave,' he said.
Chan has backed calls for the UK government to expel any Chinese officials involved. China has disputed the account of events, saying protesters had stormed its grounds.
