We need a general election now, demands Keir Starmer 'to end Tory chaos'

Telegraph, 20 Oct 2022
Labour leader, Keir Starmer demands general election 'now' to end Tory chaos.

Sir Keir Starmer has demanded an immediate general election to put an end to the "chaos" of Liz Truss's Government.

The Labour leader told the TUC congress in Brighton this morning: "They lack the basic patriotic duty to keep the British people out of their own pathetic squabbles.

"And it has wrecked the finances of our country and for millions of people. This cannot continue. Britain deserves better. Britain cannot afford the chaos of the Conservatives any more. We need a general election now."

It came as the number of Tory MPs openly calling for the Prime Minister to quit continued to grow.

Simon Hoare said he believed Ms Truss has "12 hours" to save her job, Crispin Blunt said MPs "need to effect a change, frankly today, in order to stop this shambles", and Sheryll Murray said the PM's position is "untenable and I have submitted a letter to Sir Graham Brady".
