Ballistic missile test: 'The North Koreans are never going to give up their nuclear weapons'

FRANCE24, 05 Oct 2022
#Nuclear-armed #NorthKorea test-fired a ballistic missile farther than ever before on Tuesday, sending it soaring over #Japan for the first time in five years and prompting a warning for residents there to take cover. For more on North Korea's longest-range missile test yet over Japan, FRANCE 24 is joined by Harry Kazianis, President of Rogue States Project and Fellow for National Security Affairs at the Potomac Foundation. "The North Koreans are students of history," explains Mr. Kazianis, "and they understand that the United States is very good at taking apart regimes that they do not like and do not have weapons of mass destruction." He further asserts that "there's no amount of money, no amount of convincing, no amount of diplomacy that will ever convince the North Koreans to give up these weapons." He says that we've reached a stage where we can only engage with North Korea via deterrence and arms control.
