'Putin is a f--ker! He should stop killing civilians' says Ukrainian grandmother | Dispatch

Telegraph, 19 Oct 2022
An American-supplied humvee sits charred by the side of a road, one of the latest victims of a Shaheed Iranain-made drone.

Above, a Ukrainian fighter jet twists in the sky.

An air defence system knocks out a missile, leaving behind a trail of smoke, as if a cigarette was snuffed out in the sky.

“Russian Bastards are one kilometer away,” says a Ukrainian soldier in a nearby village as his comrades slowly advance through the pockmarked countryside around Kherson.

As if on cue, artillery fire pierces the air. A mortar whistles and bangs in the distance. Pockets of unexplained explosions follow.

The flat, rural suburbs around the southern occupied city of Kherson have become the focal point of some of the most intense fighting in recent weeks.

After sweeping through vast tracts of land in the northern Kharkiv region, Ukrainian forces appear to have turned their attention South, to the prize of liberating one of the first cities taken by Putin’s troops early last year.

But unlike the sister operation in the North, the southern counter has slowed to a snail’s pace - meeting stiff resistance from Russian forces as thousands of mobilised soldiers are said to have arrived on to shore up disintegrating front lines.

And then there are the newly-supplied Iranian drones.

The wreckage of the Humvee sits on the side of a road under the warm autumn sun, its body charred, and its blackened shell already turning orange with rust.

The direct strike melted the tires and left the bonnet a mangled wreck.

More loud bangs ring in the distance.
