Ontario Education Minister Lecce holds news conference as education workers strike looms | LIVE
CA, 21 Nov 2022
Ontario's Education Minister Stephen Lecce will be holding a news conference at Queens Park on Sunday as a deadline to reach an agreement comes to pass at 5 p.m.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the Ford government are taking part in negotiations which have spanned the weekend, as they try to find a last-minute deal that would avert a planned strike.
CUPE has served the province with its strike notice and said its workers — who include education assistants, school library workers, administrative assistants and custodians — will walk off the job Monday if a deal is not reached.
Some school boards, including the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), have said that would force them to close classrooms.
