Canadian officials give update on children's pain medicine shortage | LIVE

CA, 18 Nov 2022
Government officials are expected to provide an update Friday on the shortage of infant and children's pain medication in Canada.

Since the summer, infant and children's acetaminophen and ibuprofen products have been in limited supply at retail outlets, pharmacies and hospitals across Canada.

On Monday, Health Canada announced that new shipments of children's pain medication would be available for retail purchase in the coming months. These shipments are the latest in efforts by the federal government to secure additional supplies of both children's acetaminophen and ibuprofen amid a shortage that has been going on since the summer.

Linsey Hollet, the director of health product compliance for Health Canada, told a parliamentary health committee on Tuesday, a day after the agency confirmed it had security extra supplies, that a shipment of ibuprofen from the United States has arrived and an air shipment of acetaminophen from Australia would arrive in the next couple weeks.
