Biden commemorates "Bloody Sunday" anniversary march in Selma | LIVE
CA, 06 Mar 2023
U.S. President Joe Biden will commemorate the 58th anniversary Sunday of the 1965 voting rights march in Selma, Ala., which came to be known as "Bloody Sunday."
Bloody Sunday, a seminal moment in the civil rights movement, led to the passage of landmark voting rights legislation nearly 60 years ago. Biden will speak at the Edmund Pettus Bridge where state troopers attacked peaceful protesters nearly 60 years ago.
Biden's visit to Selma is an opportunity to speak directly to the current generation of activists as he tries to shore up support ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
The president, who has been stymied in his efforts to pass new voting rights and police reform legislation, has faced criticism for falling short on campaign promises
