Trudeau insists integrity of 2019, 2021 elections were not compromised by foreign interference

CA, 04 Mar 2023
Speaking in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Friday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed concerns regarding foreign interference in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections.

Trudeau said Canadians can be assured that the integrity of both elections was safeguarded from interference by non-partisan supervision and documentation. He added that public inquires are currently being held to identify issues in the federal election process to protect Canada's democracy.

Questions have been raised about whether Trudeau’s government has responded with appropriate measures to counter the threat posed by foreign election interference, principally from China.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was provided “multiple” intelligence briefs regarding Beijing’s role in Canada’s 2019 and 2021 federal elections, Trudeau’s national security and intelligence adviser confirmed.
