Along a road shaded with trees in the Chinese megacity of Shanghai, a bookshop is focused on bringing the joy of reading to people with vision impairments and other disabilities. But the Xinhua Bookstore Backlight 226 also aims to inspire people from all walks of life with stories of perseverance. The first store of its kind in the city offers Braille books as well as volumes that allow readers to use smell, touch and other senses. The small shop even finds enough space to hold special screenings of films for the visually impaired.
