South Korean Jeon Seok-ho is still waiting for the return of his father’s body, who died 80 years ago in a submerged coal mine. Instead of paying respects at a gravesite in South Korea, Jeon visits a beach facing the Seto Inland Sea in Japan. On February 2, 1942, the underwater Chosei mine collapsed on the Pacific coast of southern Japan, killing 183 workers, including 136 Korean wartime labourers. Relatives of the victims, such as Jeon, hope to see the remains of their loved ones come home during their lifetime.
