US president Joe Biden announced an executive order on Tuesday to take 'every lawful action possible to move us as close as we can to universal background checks without new legislation'. Speaking at Monterey Park, California, where he met families and victims of the Monterey Park mass shooting earlier this year, Biden also reiterated his commitment to ban assault rifles and high-capacity magazines. He called on Republicans to 'ban assault rifles'. Biden added: 'Do something. Do something big.'
