Foreign election interference: Canadian ministers Melanie Joly, Dominic LeBlanc testify | LIVE

CA, 09 Mar 2023
Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly and Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc are expected to testify before the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs on foreign election interference on Wednesday.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defended his government during question period on Wednesday, against an ongoing controversy regarding allegations of foreign election interference in the 2019 and 2022 Canadian elections.

"We have no information on federal candidates receiving money from China, that continues to be the case," Trudeau stated.

When pressed by the leader of the Official Opposition, Pierre Poilievre, about a Global News report that said Trudeau and his government were briefed on two high-level national security reports before and after the 2019 election suggesting they were warned that Chinese government officials were funneling money to Canadian political candidates, Trudeau continued to state that he was never briefed on the issue.
