Tim Hortons blames “technical error” after multiple customers notified they won $10K prize

CA, 09 Mar 2023
Tim Hortons says a “technical error” is to blame after multiple customers were mistakenly told they had won a $10,000 American Express prepaid card in the coffee and donut chain’s "Roll up the Rim" contest. But the company has not said what caused the glitch.

Nicole Kirk was one of the Canadians falsely told Monday that they had won the daily jackpot prize, before being informed on Tuesday evening that, actually, they weren’t a winner.

“They ended up stating that I wasn’t a winner and they offered to give me a $50 Tim's gift card,” she said.

Sean O’Shea has more on the glitch, and why one expert says Tim Hortons needs to do a better job explaining what went wrong.
