In Israel, government proposals to overhaul the legal system have sparked major protests - with some calling the proposals a threat to democracy. Supporters say the plans -- which reduce the influence of the supreme court and allow political influence in selecting court justices -- are the will of the people. Others have grave concerns about the rule of law and minority rights.
