European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will address Canada's House of Commons Tuesday evening as part of a Canadian visit aimed at promoting transatlantic ties.

Earlier in the day, von der Leyen joined Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at CFB Kingston where the pair met with Canadian Armed Forces personnel who have deployed to Poland to help Ukrainian refugees.

The two expressed mutual support and solidarity on the topic of Ukraine, with Trudeau saying during the visit that Canada would "stand shoulder to shoulder with our European partners."

Trudeau and von der Leyen also held an event regarding collaboration on critical minerals in the net-zero economy during a visit to a clean technology company. The pair were expected to discuss climate change, gender equity and ways to broaden trade and investment, according to Trudeau's office.

She is scheduled to meet with Gov. Gen. Mary Simon on Wednesday morning.
