Girl dies shielding baby sister in Syria earthquake
Telegraph, 13 Feb 2023
The footage showed rescuers brushing away debris from the baby's body as she began to cry.
In a Twitter post, The White Helmets describe the "incredible moment" that the baby was found alive under the wreckage, hours after the earthquake first hit, cradled in the lap of her deceased sister.
In the six days since the earthquake, which ranks as the world's seventh deadliest natural disaster this century, rescue teams from across the world have been scrambling to find a dwindling number of survivors. Turkey's Vice President said late on Saturday that the country's death toll passed 24,000, while Syria has reported more than 3,500 dead as of Friday.
