The king had been scheduled to arrive in France on Sunday on his first state visit as monarch, before visiting Germany on Wednesday. In a statement, the Élysée Palace said the postponement had been decided by the French and British governments after a telephone conversation between Macron and the king on Friday. People angry at Macron's pension reforms had planned a further day of action next Tuesday during the royal visit.
