Humza Yousaf wins bid to replace Nicola Sturgeon as leader of the SNP

Telegraph, 27 Mar 2023
Humza Yousaf has won the race to succeed Nicola Sturgeon as SNP leader and Scottish First Minister, despite widespread doubts about his competence and polls indicating he is deeply unpopular with the public.

The Scottish Health Secretary won 48.2 per cent of the ballots cast by SNP members, compared to 40.7 per cent for Kate Forbes and only 11.1 per cent for outsider Ash Regan. Turnout among the 72,186 members was only 70 per cent.

After Ms Regan was eliminated from the contest and second preferences were redistributed, Mr Yousaf won 52.1 per cent and Ms Forbes 47.9 per cent.
