Russia announced the establishment of safe “humanitarian corridors” to allow civilians to escape besieged Ukrainian cities on March 7, 2022. But the corridors are not yet up and running, according to Ukrainian authorities who say hundreds of thousands of people remain trapped in Mariupol. The southern port is one of several Ukrainian cities under attack, as well as the capital Kyiv which is seeing Russian rockets and artillery bombardment.
