Alberta to stop collecting fuel tax, introduce rebates on electricity, Kenney announces | FULL
CA, 08 Mar 2022
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has announced plans to help people in his province deal with soaring gas prices and electricity bills.
Starting April 1st the Alberta government will stop the collection of the provincial fuel tax.
Albertans currently pay 13 cents per litre in fuel tax.
According to the government they "will review the collection of the fuel tax on a quarterly basis and, if required, consider reinstating collection in stages, based on the average price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) over a number of weeks. The government will not start to reinstate collection before July 1."
Kenney also announced that his government will provide $150 electricity rebates to help pay for high bills they faced over the winter.
The government will be working with utilities and regulators to determine exact details, including the specific timing of the rebates.
