CA, 22 Feb 2022
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Tuesday that NATO has evidence of new Russian troops moving into Donbass in eastern Ukraine, though he clarified that Russia has had been in the region “covertly” since 2014 through backing of separatists.

He also said that Russia’s decision to recognize the independence of regions in eastern Ukraine is a further “violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.”

Russia announced Tuesday that its recognition of Kremlin-backed separatist areas in eastern Ukraine extends to territory currently held by Ukraine forces.

Stoltenberg warned Tuesday that the potential invasion of Ukraine is “the most dangerous moment” for European security “in a generation.”
