13-year-old drove pickup truck in Texas crash that killed 9, injured 2 Canadians: NTSB

CA, 18 Mar 2022
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said Thursday that the investigation into the deadly crash in Texas, involving a pickup truck that struck a van killing nine and injuring two, has revealed a 13-year-old was driving the truck.

According to the NTSB, the truck was being driven by the child when its left front tire, which was a spare, blew out before impact. It then crossed the opposite lane on a darkened, two-lane highway before colliding with the van.

The passengers of the van were members and the coach of a college golf team from University of the Southwest, including two from Canada. The two Canadians were the only survivors of the crash and taken to hospital in critical condition, though they have both since been upgraded to stable and recovering. Erica Vella reports.
