Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor acknowledged that government efforts have fallen short in getting the city’s elderly vaccinated against Covid-19, even as it continues to grapple with a fifth wave of infections. Hong Kong Covid-19 pandemic adviser Professor David Hui said deep-rooted misconceptions about the vaccine’s negative effects have led to strong public resistance to getting vaccinated. The government is targeting a two-week window to administer at least one vaccine dose to all residents at care home facilities. So far, 40,000 residents in 970 care homes have been inoculated.
