A Russian attack has destroyed a maternity hospital in the besieged Ukrainian city of Mariupol on March 9, 2022. Regional authorities said no deaths had yet been confirmed, but at least 17 people were injured, including staff and patients. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that people and children were trapped under the wreckage, calling the attack an “atrocity” and proof that a genocide of Ukrainians was under way. The southern city of Mariupol has been surrounded by Russian troops for several days, as Ukrainian authorities have yet to secure from the Russians safe humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians from the city.
