Russian TV news employee says she was ashamed to spread Putin’s propaganda before on-air protest

CA, 16 Mar 2022
Marina Ovsyannikova, the woman appearing to be the Russian state TV Channel One employee who on Monday made an anti-war statement during a live news bulletin, recorded a message before the protest apologizing for working for the channel.

“Sadly, during the past years I worked at Channel One, I spread the Kremlin propaganda and I am very ashamed of this,” she said.

A court fined Ovsyannnikova 30,000 roubles on Tuesday after the Kremlin denounced her act of protest as “hooliganism.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Ovsyannikova on Monday.

In a daily televised address, Zelenskiy said he was grateful to those Russians who do not stop trying to convey the truth.

“And personally to that young woman who entered the studio of Channel One with a poster against the war," he added.
